The Bear (Hotel)

The Bear was a lovely place to stay for a work event at Sandown Park Racecourse. The staff were welcoming from the moment we walked through the door and the food was freshly cooked. My room was spacious with everything I needed, plus a lovely shower. The small car park was full when I arrived, but there was an alternative just round the corner (I think our group had filled it up tbh). The chocolate brownie comes highly recommended!

A Truly Wonderful Stay – Even with a Rocky Start What a fantastic experience from start to finish—even though our trip began on a difficult note. My wife was injured on the way to The Bear, and we couldn’t have been met with more kindness and care. The staff went above and beyond, and Tracy was an absolute gem—warm, genuine, and made us feel like we were staying with friends rather than in a hotel. This stay really highlighted the contrast with one of the sister hotels we visited, which lacked the same warmth and charm. It’s our second time at The Bear—we stayed last year, and although my wife was initially hesitant about staying in a pub setting, she ended up loving it so much that it topped her list for this year’s trip. We noticed several subtle improvements since our last visit—small touches that really add up and elevate the overall experience. It’s clear that care and attention to detail are a priority here. If we had one minor complaint, it would be the limited parking, but it’s a small trade-off for such a welcoming and comfortable stay. Top rated—we’d love to return again.

This is a good spot - great location in the middle of Esher. Room was clean and well equipped. Good bathroom and comfortable bed. Nice people too. Only minor quibble was that the cooked breakfast coule have been hotter in temperature, but overall, a fine place.

Fantastic stay at The Bear. Lovely warm welcome from all the staff, especially the manager. We had a delicious lunch before checking in. We were able to make use of the free parking on site. The room was clean and nicely styled. Nespresso coffee machine, toiletries, honesty bar with drinks and snacks including chilled items. Yummy continental breakfast included and hot options available too. My avocado and poached eggs on toast was very yummy! Would highly recommend a stay here. We were attending a Drone Art Show at Sandown Park Racecourse which was a few minutes walk away.

What an absolutely incredible stay at The Bear! From the moment we stepped in, we felt more like visiting dignitaries than paying guests—and that’s all thanks to Tracey, the superstar manager. Honestly, she rolled out the red carpet and then some. Nothing was too much trouble, and everything was done with a smile (and usually a good laugh too). The head chef personally curated a traditional Sunday roast just for our group—and it was next level. The pub itself? Proper English charm. We came for a night away and left feeling like part of the family. If you’re after good food, good company, and the kind of welcome that makes you feel right at home—The Bear’s the one. Already planning our next visit. Tracey, get our room ready!

Tracy and her team could NOT have been more friendly or accommodating. We had a family event there and the food provided was so tasty and the service was lovely. Nothing was too much trouble and they really couldn't have done enough. Thank you so much for all your care and attention. xx

Such a lovely place to stay! Perfectly located in Esher, a short taxi ride from the station, centrally located on the high street with access to all the local amenities within walking distance. The staff were incredibly warm, friendly and welcoming. The room I stayed in was beautiful - it had the old building, rustic look but with a modern feel. Clean, tidy and super comfy bed! Oh and the toiletries smell divine! So much nicer and luxurious than the price point would suggest. Highly recommend. Will definitely stay again

Great location for Sandown park (10 minute walk) Food was lovely, fantastic bar, the staff are all friendly and very helpful. Room has everything you need and a mini bar! Will definitely stay again.

Really good clean and comfortable rooms. Always a welcoming atmosphere. Good food at dinner and breakfast. Excellent service from the team.
